About this course

The focus on this course is on the study of fundamental concepts of Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) and Remote Therapeutic Monitoring (RTM) related to nursing practice including developing skills needed to meet the needs of patient using remotes technology and the nursing process. Emphases is placed on competencies of CMS guidelines and regulations to assure compliance of providing care using technology to improve patient quality of care resulting in improve outcome. The course provides knowledge of introductory skill development of remote patient care. 

Objectives

This course’s main objective is to prepare case managers to understand payers of the healthcare system in the US. And the role CMS and payer play in Managed Care. By the end of the course participants should have a basic knowledge payer in the U.S. health care system and the role they play in managed care.

  • Define coverage and eligibility requirements of Medicare Parts A, B, C, and D.
  • Explain the relationship of health U.S. Healthcare payers by comparison of eligibility and benefits among plans to provide understanding healthcare coverage to provide authorized treatment based on the patients’ payors, approved benefits.
  • Compare healthcare payers’ benefits and how they impact managed care.
  • Understand the basics of Managed Care contracts risk and reimbursement through exploration of managed care contracts.
  • Explain the role of quality measurements and managed care as a method to improve patient| care through policies and quality programs.

Who is this course for

The target audience for this course consists of nurses and healthcare case managers. Two (2) Continuing Education Credits (CE) are rewarded upon successful completion of each part of the course. A total of 4 CEs will be awarded for completion of Part 1 and 2.

About the author

Laura Schmidt, RN, BSN, MHR, is a healthcare professional with 25 years of experience, specializing in remote patient management for chronic conditions. She holds a BSN from Wright State University and an MHR from the University of Oklahoma. Starting her career in nephrology, she developed an educational program for a dialysis company in 2009, which successfully reduced patient mortality and morbidity, and its results were published in Nephrology News in 2012. With experience in clinic operations and team leadership, Laura has contributed to creating a digital healthcare platform and now consults on Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) and Remote Therapeutic Monitoring (RTM). Her expertise includes developing remote care technology, patient engagement, onboarding, quality assurance, CMS compliance, billing, and education strategies.
